HI there. I am trying to find out some information on the song " The Ryebuck Shearer". Does anyone know who wrote it and when it was written. I run the Alexandra Folk and Country Music Club here in Alexandra, Victoria. Long live Australian music. Andrew Parry

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to the club!

Unfortunately, cannot help you with who wrote it, but I know that it was collected from the singing of Jack Luscombe by John Meredith in 1953.

Meredith also collected the words from Ernie Sibley in the beer garden of the Orient Hotel in Mudgee, NSW.

An excerpt from the book Folk Songs of Australia "The four remembered verses were taken down, and after another beer Ernie set off on his pushbike. Ten minutes later he jumped off his bike and breathlessly added the chorus that he had suddenly remembered along the road".
